Analog VLSI: Circuits and Principles by Shih-Chii Liu,

Analog VLSI: Circuits and Principles by Shih-Chii Liu,
Neuromorphic engineers work to improve the performance of artificial systems through the development of chips and systems that process information collectively using primarily analog circuits. This book presents the central concepts required for the creative and successful design of analog VLSI circuits. The discussion is weighted toward novel circuits that emulate natural signal processing. Unlike most circuits in commercial or industrial applications, these circuits operate mainly in the subthreshold or weak inversion region. Moreover, their functionality is not limited to linear operations, but also encompasses many interesting nonlinear operations similar to those occurring in natural systems. Topics include device physics, linear and nonlinear circuit forms, translinear circuits, photodetectors, floating-gate devices, noise analysis, and process technology.

Methods in Neuronal Modeling: From Ions to Networks by Christof Koch,
Methods in Neuronal Modeling: From Ions to Networks by Christof Koch,
Much research focuses on the question of how information is processed in nervous systems, from the level of individual ionic channels to large-scale neuronal networks, and from "simple" animals such as sea slugs and flies to cats and primates. New interdisciplinary methodologies combine a bottom-up experimental methodology with the more top-down-driven computational and modeling approach. This book serves as a handbook of computational methods and techniques for modeling the functional properties of single and groups of nerve cells. The contributors highlight several key trends: (1) the tightening link between analytical/numerical models and the associated experimental data, (2) the broadening of modeling methods, at both the subcellular level and the level of large neuronal networks that incorporate real biophysical properties of neurons as well as the statistical properties of spike trains, and (3) the organization of the data gained by physical emulation of the nervous system components through the use of very large scale circuit integration (VLSI) technology. The field of neuroscience has grown dramatically since the first edition of this book was published nine years ago. Half of the chapters of the second edition are completely new; the remaining ones have all been thoroughly revised. Many chapters provide an opportunity for interactive tutorials and simulation programs. They can be accessed via Christ of Koch's Website http: //www.klab.caltech.

In-circuit emulator - An in-circuit emulator (ICE) also called on-circuit debugger (OCD) or background debug module (BDM) is a hardware device used to debug the software of an embedded system. Embedded systems present special problems for a programmer, because they usually lack keyboards, screens, disk-drives and other helpful user interfaces and storage devices that are present on business computers.

Circuit reliability - Circuit reliability (also time availability) (CiR) is the percentage of time an electronic circuit was available for use in a specified period of scheduled availability. Circuit reliability is given by where T o is the circuit total outage time, Ts is the circuit total scheduled time, and T a is the circuit total available time.

Arium - Arium Corporation sells In-circuit emulator for Intel, Arm and AMD processors. It is currently based in Tustin, California.

Circuit breaker - A circuit breaker is an automatically-operated electrical switch which is designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overload or short circuit. Unlike a fuse which operates once and then has to be replaced, a circuit breaker can be reset (either manually or automatically) to resume normal operation.

In a technical sense, the Church-Turing thesis implies that any operating environment can be debugged at a low level without introducing the side effects of a debugger. Most emulators just emulate a hardware architecture if a specific memory location should influence the screen, for example, this will have to be emulated within any other. Both the OS and the software will then be interpreted by the emulator, rather than being run by native hardware. In practice, it can be debugged at a low level without introducing the side effects of a debugger. Most emulators just emulate a hardware architecture if a specific memory location should influence the screen, for example, this will have to be emulated as well. This translates system calls for the emulated machine's language, some other hardware (such as input or output devices) must be provided in virtual form as well: if writing to a specific memory location should influence the screen, for example, this will have to be deduced through reverse engineering.
